It’s back-to-school time, work is starting up again, and going out is becoming increasingly rare… Don’t let yourself be put off by the evening drinking blues of your more or less sunny summer! And yes, a nice keel of white wine in the fridge is always a pleasure for an aperitif on the way home, or on a nice chicken in front of a Bebel film.

But which white to choose? Don’t panic, we’ve put together a guide to the best white wines for every occasion and budget.

The best cheap white

The bottles are already in the cellar for dinner, the dishes are being prepared, the aperitif will soon be on the table, but all you’ve got to open your palate is pastis! Nothing too serious, you may say, but it’s true that a little whitewash wouldn’t hurt.

So you pocket the twenty euro bill lying around on the scriban and head off to your local wine shop. That’s it, you’re scanning the bottles, you’ve got to keep it simple, fast, efficient and inexpensive.

For this, we’re heading for Touraine in the Loire, with the cuvée Trinqu’âmes from La Grange Tiphaine, vintage 2020. A well-crafted Sauvignon with typical citrus and vegetal notes. Aromas of English candy and cut grass will awaken your taste buds and your appetite.

The best organic white

This summer, for want of good weather, you took advantage of the reopening of bistros and bars to gorge yourself on everything you’ve been missing! Mayo eggs, marrow bones, all-you-can-eat Jupiler galopins, beef cheek nuts, tripe, tartar, fries… In short, fat, meat and, above all, lots of fun.

But you’ve decided to go a little greener this autumn, without depriving yourself of your most gourmet pleasure… Don’t worry, with the nugget we’re about to bring you, you’ll feel right down to the earth and the roots of the vines.

So it’s with a Beaujolais Village Blanc vintage 2020 from Jean Claude Lapalu that we’ll be debating lowering the speed limit in cities to 30km/h and developing community vegetable gardens in public squares. Organic farming, white fruit aromas and minerality! A juice as round as it is juicy, exquisitely drinkable as an aperitif or with fish carpaccio.

Alsace’s finest white

If you’re going to have bad weather, why not go to Alsace? Here you are right in the middle of this extraordinary terroir, between Colmar, Mulhouse and Belfort, surrounded by the Bollenberg and Pfingstberg hills. You don’t have much planned other than to visit this timeless countryside, its typical gastronomy and iconic wines.

Treat yourself to simplicity with a Gewurztraminer Grand Cru Sonnenglanz Sélection de Grains Nobles (2018) from Bott Geyl. The color is golden, the nose honeyed, spicy, gourmand… in short, complex and, above all, intense! On the palate, there’s an explosion of aromas and an elegant roundness that almost gives the impression of tasting a sublime liqueur.

With a strong local cheese, especially one from Bernard Antony, surely the greatest of all artisan cheesemakers, this wine will be an absolute delight!

The best white for a special occasion

That’s it, you’ve met the parents-in-law, you’re starting to bond with them, you’re gradually becoming part of the family… and you’re thinking about marriage! To mark the occasion, there’s this dinner planned for next Saturday: you, your spouse and your respective in-laws.

Just as well, you’re in charge of the wine. You pick up a few more or less standard bottles to please everyone… and then your wine merchant directs you to his private cellar. After all, it’s preparation for a big dinner! You feel around in the refrigerated cupboard, and your attention is drawn to a Sauternes. Nothing less than a Château d’Yquem 2001a 100/100 according to the

Don’t wait any longer. Yes, the price is exorbitant, but isn’t it worth all the love you have for your couple and your family? On the nose, honeyed tropical fruit, orange and pineapple marmalade, buttered nuts and crème brûlée… On the palate, its refreshing acidity tempers the wine’s power and unctuousness – it’s exquisite! According to Robert Parker, this wine can age for more than 70 years without any effort, a fine model for the longevity of your marriage!
