The Monthélie AOC wine is located in Burgundy.

 


Le
Monthélie
is a dry white wine that falls into the category of still wines.s. It is produced in the Burgundy vineyards of eastern France, in the Côte de Beaune wine region. It is produced in Monthélie. It has the appellations d’origine contrôlée and d’origine protégée. since 1937. Its terroir enjoys a semi-arid oceanic climate.continental. The vineyard faces south and southeast on the Volnay hillsides. and vines have developed on Bathonian gravelly limestone composed of red clay and marl. It also extends into the Auxey-Duresses valley on argovian limestone with east and west exposure depending on the side of the slope, at altitudes of between 230 and 370 meters.

 

Monthélie white or red, the appellation includes many 1er cru wines.

 

This appellation comprises a total of 15 climats classified as premier cruthe most famous of which are Duressesthe Riottes and the clos Gauthey. This denomination is mainly dred wines with more than 24 hectares but also ofs white wines with around 2 hectares.

 

Producers use grape varieties characteristic of the region

 

The main grape varieties used used toMonthélie white wine are the Chardonnay or Pinot Blanc. Its characteristics are often compared and associated to that ofof its cousin Meursault. To the eye, it has an elegant yellow colour. pale with golden golden highlights. It emanates floral and vanillasometimese notes of dried fruit, such as roasted hazelnut or almond are revealed. The Burgundian practices of bâtonnage and oak barrel ageing give Chardonnay the mellow, slightly brioche-like texture on the palate so typical of the Côte d’Or. In the end, this white is often characterized as generous and lively.

The best vintages and and most recent for Monthélie white include the years 1995, 1996, 1999, 2002 and 2005.

 

Fish or shellfish for a perfect match

 

It’s important to know that Monthélie blanc can be enjoyed as an aperitif or with dinner. When it comes to pairing this wine, its its mellow, full-bodied character goes perfectly with just-seared shrimp linguine, or a fish tagine, for example. This AOC goes well notably with various blue cheeses such as Roquefort, Bleu de Bresse, Bleu d’Auvergne, Epoisses and Livarot.
The terving temperature recommended for is between 12 °C and 14°C. This is a white wine to be drunk young, nevertheless son ageing potential is estimated up to 5 years.
