Joël Dupuch interview

Since his moving performance in Les Petits Mouchoirs, amateur actor and above all oyster farmer Joël Dupuch has revealed his connection with wine with his generous, endearing personality.

TWIL: How long have you been an oyster farmer?

Joël Dupuch: For over 40 years.

Why the name “Le Parc des Impératrices”?

Because it was Napoleon III who encouraged the creation the creation of oyster farming in France, and the Parcs Impériaux Parcs Impériaux on the Bassin d’Arcachon.

We discovered you in part thanks to the film “Les Petits Mouchoirs”. What did you think of the experience and would you do it again?

It’s true that this story has given me a wider reputation than I had in my own environment. private and professional. As I like to discover new new worlds, I had a great time living this experience experience, and all the more so because the entire team who took part in the creation of this film, was exceptionally of kindness, good humor and talent… so it was very easy. I took part in several shoots and I’m always open to this type of adventure. of adventure.

What’s your history with wine?

As long as I’ve been working, I’ve lived with restaurateurs and chefs. I set up restaurants. Wine is an integral part of Gastronomy, so I’ve been interested in it for a very long time. Living in the Bordeaux region, which is one of the most beautiful wine-producing areas in the world, I’ve had the good fortune and privilege of sharing some exceptional moments with some exceptional people from this milieu. They introduced me to the subtleties of this nectar. A little later, another stroke of luck, the Burgundy wine trade association chose me to look after their catering at the VINEXPO trade show. After my initiation in Bordeaux, I discovered, tasted and fell in love with Burgundy Chardonnays and other marvels of this vineyard.
With these foundations, all the trips I’ve made abroad have led me to become interested in and taste the wines of the countries I’ve visited… a never-ending quest for happiness!

What was your latest favorite wine?

I never have a final favorite wine because every moment shared with people we love enhances the wine we drink, and it’s often… On the other hand, I have a very special memory of a dinner with professionals, during which good humor was one of the ingredients of the moment, and a Palmer 1966 left me with a wonderful memory.

What’s the perfect food & wine pairing?

There are too many exceptional dishes and wines to list exhaustively. For this type of question, the answer requires the writing of several books…

Which wine do you recommend to accompany your oysters?

Classicism would dictate dry white wines, but light, well-balanced reds are also suitable. This question and the previous one bother me because to have pleasure, you need desire, and desire is very subjective and leaves room for all kinds of choices. My taste, which is only as good as I think it is, would lead me to a Graves de Pessac-Léognan and my affect would make me choose a Château Larrivet Haut-Brion.

Who do you turn to for advice when choosing a wine?

For all those who like to eat, drink and share good food, who are curious and like to share their discoveries. You always learn something.

Which celebrity would you like to toast with?

With Socrates, but I think he’s no longer available. If he ever gets free… I’m sure it would be extraordinary: a brilliant mind with a sublime meal, what could be better?

What are your plans for the future?

Keep trying to make the people I love happy. To have time to meet people I might like and don’t yet know. And share with them moments of intelligence and laughter. Nice program, isn’t it?
