Hop hop hop the guests are arriving in a few minutes, the appetizers are on the table and the roast beef is in the oven. Suddenly, you remember that it would be a good idea to decant your Bordeaux. But you don’t have a decanter, so what can you do?

To be blunt, there’s no miracle method. Without a decanter, it’s impossible to decant a wine. The wine must be poured into a container with a wider base than a bottle, and left to rest so that the impurities in the wine settle to the bottom of the decanter.

Don’t panic, I’ve got a solution! A good bottle of Syrah will do the trick. You just need to aerate it a little to enjoy it in optimal conditions. There’s no need for a decanter, and several methods are available.

The most classic is simply to open the bottle well in advance. Oxygen penetration is more difficult than in a carafe, but it’s better than nothing.

The second method is simpler than youmight think. Have you ever noticed that the end of your glass tastes better than the beginning? It’ s normal, the wine has aerated while you were drinking it. When your guests arrive, serve directly from the wine glasses and advise them to gently swirl their wine from their glass. This will release the dissolved aromas and calm down the overly pronounced tannins in your wine.

You’re all set with your system D, but don’t forget, the easiest way is to have a decanter at hand. That way, you can decant your older wines and your younger ones.
