Mead and pancakes. Russian dish for Shrove Tuesday. Farewell to winter

February 21 is Mardi Gras. On this special day for the little ones, anything goes for the grown-ups too! On the festive day preceding the Lenten fast, the fattiest desserts are out. Doughnuts, pancakes or waffles, it’s time to indulge without feeling guilty, because it’s okay, we’ll be careful tomorrow!

These high-calorie desserts can be enjoyed with wine for even greater pleasure. Be careful not to choose a wine that is too sweet, as this would be an awkward pairing.

Choose light wines from the Loire or Alsace, sparkling and dry wines to complement these gourmet desserts…

Loire

  • Muscadet Sèvre et Maine Aop, Château De Rochefort A TWIL team favorite, this wine boasts 2 stars in the Guide Hachette. “Generous yet fresh, this Muscadet displays a certain ambition. Its notes of ripe fruit and melon, its juicy, well-balanced structure, served by beautiful bitters, form a complex expression of the cru.”

Alsace

  • Crémant Brut Prestige “émotion”, Jean Baptiste Adam How can we talk about Alsace without suggesting a crémant? This fresh cuvée opens with notes of citrus fruit and white peach, as well as butter and honey. On the palate, expressive aromas of ripe fruit and brioche bread give this Crémant an intense style. Perfect with brioche.

Sparkling and dry wines

  • Brut Grand Cru, Champagne Th. Small Behind a limpid gold color crowned by a tonic effervescence, we discover intense, complex and subtly evolved scents: peach, pear, kirsch, plum, buttered brioche… In the same register, the palate is ample, round and long, fresh enough not to give in on elegance.” (3 stars in the Guide Hachette des Vins)

Mardi Gras is the place to be! 🎊
