What is wine matter?

Contents

You’re tasting a wine with your wine-loving friend, and he tells you that this Bordeaux wine has “good substance”. What do you mean by that? Don’t worry, today, thanks to us, you’ll be able to unravel its mysteries.

During a tasting, when you finally taste the wine, it comes into contact with your palate and tongue. You can then perceive its attack, mid-palate and finish. In the middle, a wine may appear quite concentrated and fleshy. Southern wines are often made from grapes that have benefited from good ripening due to the sunshine, and are said to be full-bodied. More mature grapes are therefore sweeter, and during alcoholic fermentation they produce a higher alcohol content and more concentrated wine.

On the palate, a wine with substance will therefore stand out for its richness, lining the palate with its strong consistency, tannins and roundness.

Full-bodied or fleshy wines are mainly from Bordeaux, the South-West or Languedoc-Roussillon.
