AOC Menetou-Salon

Menetou-Salon is an appellation d’origine contrôlée wine from the commune of Menetou-Salon, northeast of Bourges in the Loire Valley. This vineyard is quite old, with traces dating back to the 11th century, with documents from the seigneury and castellany of Menetou-Salon.

Today, the appellation covers 590 hectares of vines, planted with Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir.

The Menetou-Salon terroir is mainly composed of Kimmeridgian marl and Portlandian limestone. The climate is temperate, with a gradated oceanic and semi-continental influence.

Food and wine pairing

The typical characteristics of this terroir produce red wines with a ruby color, aromas of ripe fruit and a supple mouthfeel. Rosé wines are characterized by white and dried fruits, with a subtle mouthfeel. White wines offer aromas of citrus fruit, white flowers and mint/pepper.

Menetou-Salon red wines are the perfect match for poultry or grilled red meats such as entrecôte or barbecued prime rib.

White wines from Menetou-Salon go well with white-fleshed fish, asparagus or Venetian-style veal liver. A platter of mature cheeses or soft cheeses can also magnify a fine cuvée from this appellation.

For a Menetou-Salon rosé wine, a summer starter or pepper/onion/veal brochettes are a perfect match.
