Régnié is a famous wine appellation in the Beaujolais region. The appellation covers the communes of Régnié-Durette and Lantignié.

Régnié is the most recent appellation to join the crus of the Beaujolais.

The work of 120 winemakers, Régnié is the latest Beaujolais appellation to see the light of day, having only been accepted as such in 1988. Over the years, the appellation has established itself as one of the most important in its terroir.

Régnié’s vineyards are thought to have existed since the Middle Ages, but the region’s wines only really began to make a name for themselves in the 17thth century with with the opening of the Briare canal, and were at their peak in the bourgeois Paris of the 18th century Paris.

Régnié vineyards face due south

Régnié takes its name from this commune in the Beaujolais region, which is dominated by a magnificent church with two bell towers built by the architect of Notre-Dame-de-Fourvière. The vineyards are bordered to the west by the Monts du Beaujolais, which divide the Loire and Saône valleys. Between 250 and 500 meters above sea level, the vineyards that make up the Régnié appellation stretch over 400 hectares of sandy, clayey hillsides, drawing their character from the pink granite subsoil..

The vinification of Régnié is made from whole bunches, which is specific to Beaujolais.. Mainly planted with Gamay, known as “Gamay Noir à jus blanc” (Black Gamay with white juice), these red grape vines produce remarkably delicate grapes that give fruity wines combining good constitution and extreme finesse. The vineyards are south-facing, so get plenty of sunshine.

The region boasts a unique climate, as its temperate, semi-continental climate combines oceanic and Mediterranean influences. With plenty of sunshine, moderate rainfall and mild temperatures, the vines enjoy ideal exposure.

Régnié is a round, powerful terroir wine

Régnié, like the other ten Beaujolais crus, is a beautiful and unique expression of the Gamay grape variety. Régnié has a brilliant cherry to ruby color.

The nose offers charm and freshness, with aromas of red fruit (redcurrants, blackberries and raspberries), sometimes tending towards ripe peach or violet. On the palate, this is a wine with relatively little tannin, revealing very good acidity without too much complexity, as its winemaking method has evolved over time.

In fact, on the palate, the attack is soft, while the body is round and undeniably powerful, leaving a long, fruity sensation at the back of the mouth.

To best appreciate the aromas and nuances of this generous, full-bodied wine, Régnié should be drunk young, from 3 to 5 years. The success of Régnié wines can also be attributed to their delicacy, which is apparent from their earliest youth.

Régnié goes well with dishes from the Beaujolais region

Régnié is a wine to be fully appreciated with dishes from the Beaujolais region. This feminine, round and elegant wine should be served at an ideal temperature of 13°C to 14°C, and is a perfect match for rabbit à la basquaise, pork shank with green lentils, pork pot au feu or guinea fowl à l’orange.

It’s also the ideal accompaniment to white meats simmered with vegetables. These recipes are sure to please even the most discerning taste buds, as the harmony between this vintage and these dishes is so obvious.

What have been the great vintages of AOC Régnié in recent years?

The years: 2005, 2009, 2010, 2011 are considered to be the appellation’s finest years, which are qualified as of the millennium.

Remarkable family estates make up the Régnié terroir

Since 2005, Emmanuel Jambon has been at the helm of the company. and farms nearly 40 hectares, including five Beaujolais crus: Brouilly, Côte-de-Brouilly, Morgon, Moulin-à-vent and Régnié. This estate is located in the commune of Saint-Lager, at the foot of the famous Mont Brouilly, in the heart of the Beaujolais vineyards.
