A stone’s throw from Sancerre, in the commune of Bué, Philippe Auchère has been cultivating his vines since 1995. A bon vivant and lover of gastronomy, Philippe studied pastry-making before deciding to take over the reins of his father’s estate, Jacques Auchère.

Today, the vineyard covers 7 hectares, including 5 in AOC Sancerre and 2 in AOC Coteaux du Giennois.

Taste for detail and respect for the terroir

Driven by respect for the terroir, Philippe works his vines in a sustainable way, as close to nature as possible. Plots are carefully maintained to preserve soil structure and balance, and to encourage biodiversity.

The terroirs cultivated in Sancerre are predominantly clay-limestone. On the other side of the Loire, Coteaux-du-Giennois vines are planted on flinty clay terroirs.

To maintain his plots, Philippe has chosen hoeing and mowing. He uses the micro tractor, which is lighter and uses less energy than the high-clearance tractor, to limit soil compaction and reduce environmental impact.

A rigorous and passionate winemaker, Philippe pays particular attention to his vines, adapting to the specific characteristics of each of his 13 plots to ensure the best possible harvest every year. At the same time, vintages are carefully studied to bring out the best in them.

Philippe has chosen not to add artificial yeast to his wines, which ferment only with indigenous yeast, naturally present in the juice. Furthermore, no acidity correctors or deviant inputs are added to its wines.

As a result, each vintage is different and has its own characteristics, expressing as faithfully as possible its year and terroir.

In keeping with our responsible and ecological approach, Gaston, a pig, maintains the surrounding undergrowth. Rasta, Rockett and Lola, sheep from Ouessant, look after the green spaces, and a few chickens take care of any slugs that make their way into the vegetable garden.

It’s in this rustic setting that Philippe strives to produce wines that are both authentic and atypical.

Philippe Auchère’s traditional cuvées

Every year, Philippe makes 5 different cuvées in Sancerre, 2 cuvées in Coteaux-du-Giennois and some ephemeral cuvées if the vintage lends itself to it.

Sancerre Blanc reveals exotic and citrus aromas. A perfect partner for seafood, fish and white meats.

Sancerre Rouge offers silky tannins and spicy aromas. Between strength and lightness, it is the perfect accompaniment to red meat or a cheese platter.

The Coteaux-du-Giennois white reveals a beautiful minerality and a frank attack on the palate, between acidity and roundness on the long finish.

Coteaux-du-Giennois is a red wine that can be drunk as an aperitif. Pinot noir brings tannin and richness, while Gamay completes the picture with its greed and fruitiness.

Gastronomic Rosé reveals aromas of English candy. On the palate, it’s a real explosion of flavors, with notes of cherry and raspberry. Enjoy it as an aperitif or with a fruity dessert.

Cuvée Arnaud is one of Philippe Auchère’s exceptional cuvées. Named after one of Philippe’s twins, this personal cuvée is only produced in good years. This white Sancerre comes from old vines over 80 years old. A third of this wine is aged in oak barrels, giving it a discreet woodiness that brings amplitude and voluptuousness.
