AOC presentation

Côtes-de-Duras is an appellation d’origine contrôlée in Lot-et-Garonne, around the village of Duras, in the South-West vineyards. AOC Côtes-de-Duras covers 15 communes between Bergerac and Marmande. This production area has benefited from an AOC since 1937.

Covering 1,943 hectares of vines and benefiting from a temperate oceanic climate, this terroir is made up of small hills with gentle slopes, protected from the cold and excessive humidity of the valley bottoms.

The soils and subsoils are of marine or fluvial origin and are marly, clay-limestone, molasse or boulbènes.

AOC wines

The AOC produces 65% red and rosé wines, 35% white wines. Red wines are mainly made from four traditional Bordeaux grape varieties: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Malbec (or Côt). The wines produced here are full-bodied and fleshy, with ripe fruit and animal aromas.

Best drunk young, Côtes-de-Duras wines are purplish red (for reds), intense rosé (for rosés), light gold (for whites) or yellow gold (for sweet whites).

On the nose, the wines are powerful and fruity. Dry whites made from Sauvignon also display floral and vegetal notes. On the palate, the reds are tannic and velvety, while the whites are lively, light and fruity.

Red wines go perfectly with regional dishes such as duck confit, veal with porcini mushrooms or lamprey. Similarly, Basque chicken, buffalo stew or chocolate chicken are dishes that will be magnified by wines from this AOC.
