SCEA du Moulin Blanc: a beautiful estate nestled in the heart of the Bordeaux region

Gilles MERIAS’ adventure at Château Moulin Blanc La Chapelle began in 1980, when he bought a 10-hectare estate nestled in magnificent surroundings in the Bordeaux region. Rich in culture, history and beautiful landscapes, the estate began operations in 1998.

Winegrowing in the Bordeaux region dates back to ancient times. As the son of a winegrower, Gilles MERIAS works noble terroirs with great passion to create fruity, elegant wines with varied, mysterious aromas, vinified according to the traditional principles of the region and learned from his ancestors.

Thanks to the reasoned management of its treatments, SCEA du Moulin Blanc acquired HVE 3 certification for the two appellations AOC Montagne Saint-Émilion and AOC Lussac Saint-Émilion in 2018. All MERIAS’ efforts have also been rewarded with several medals and numerous selections in the Hachette guide.

Noble terroirs cultivated with great passion

SCEA du Moulin Blanc covers an area where the climate has changed dramatically over time. In the past, it benefited from an “oceanic” climate, sometimes humid and sometimes mild. Today, global warming is having an impact on the environment in many ways. As a result, the region enjoys both an oceanic climate and one with Mediterranean tendencies. The soils are predominantly limestone, clay and gravel.

In this 4-hectare vineyard, the predominance of clay-limestone soils gives the red wines of the Montagne Saint-Émilion appellation their unique character. This type of soil provides an excellent supply of water to the vines, even in hot weather. While wines produced from gravelly soils are fine, those from clay-limestone soils are very robust.

Born towards the end of the 18th century, Merlot represents 40% of the grape varieties grown on the 4-hectare estate, as well as 58% of the grape varieties grown in the Bordeaux terroir. AOC Montagne Saint-Émilion’s cool, clay-limestone soils produce an exquisite, elegant grape variety. To complete the blending of his wines, Gilles MERIAS adds 60% Cabernet Franc, one of the oldest red grape varieties of the Bordeaux terroir and the most widely used grape variety in the blending of Montagne Saint-Émilion red wines. The different growing conditions in the region allow the grapes to reach perfect maturity.

For its part, AOC Lussac Saint-Émilion has been a land of vines for over 9 centuries. The 6-hectare estate’s red wines are made from 70% Cabernet Franc and 30% Merlot. The rather temperate continental climate of the AOC and the gentle slopes of the vineyard are very favorable, as they enable the vines to enjoy the same amount of sunshine. The appellation’s sandy soils give wines to drink young.

Tasty red wines with fruity notes

SCEA du Moulin Blanc and its team warmly welcome you to enjoy, appreciate and savor all that the magnificent vineyard has to offer. The estate produces dark ruby-colored red wines. The nose releases scents of red fruits, and the predominantly Cabernet Franc blend adds complexity and a bouquet of fruity aromas that can be enjoyed young. In addition, you can find spicy scents that give a particular flavor to the wines. The palate is woody, often with notes of candied fruit, and develops round but powerful tannins.

Served between 15 and 17°C, these wines are the perfect accompaniment to grilled or roasted red meats, game, cassoulet, homemade terrines and charcuterie dishes. They are also perfect with brie or Roquefort cheese dishes, and why not with chocolate desserts.
