A history of vines

Château de Grand Saint-Julien has belonged to the Reynaud family since the 1850s, a family originally from Apt. It would be a few generations before Bertrand Reynaud would revive these lands, which had already been farmed in ancient times and in the Middle Ages. After a site survey, Reynaud knew that this soil would be ideal for growing vines. With a degree in oenology from the École Nationale Supérieure d’Agronomie de Montpellier and a passion for wine above all else, he set about developing a vineyard there in the 1980s. Bertrand had to give up the idea of creating his own winery. Having made his name at Sylla’s, he found it more reasonable to work in association with his team. He became vice-president and today the cellar’s leading producer.

A land conducive to crops

The vineyard is located in Provence, south of the AOC Ventoux in the Lubéron. With its contrasting climate, it lives to the rhythm of the seasons, with summer temperatures. Château Grand Saint-Julien lies to the south of this area, opposite the Colorado Provençal. This 30-hectare estate enjoys south and west exposure. Where crops enjoy 330 days of sunshine a year and dry air. Syrah and Grenache are used for red wines. We also use Cinsault for rosé wines, and Grenache blanc, Vermentino, Viognier and Roussanne for whites. Temperatures of up to 40°C in summer help ripen the tannins in the grapes. The 25-30 year-old vines grow on predominantly limestone soils, and therefore benefit from good filtration. These geological conditions, combined with the warm periods, produce wines rich in ripe fruit aromas with a fresh mouthfeel, for reds as well as whites and rosés.

Estate wines

Château Grand Saint-Julien offers powerful, fresh and aromatic wines. The red Cuvée Clémence has an elegant ruby-red color. With its fruity notes and ample mouthfeel, it is the perfect accompaniment to grilled meats, leg of lamb and red meats.

The red Estelle cuvée is also fuller-bodied than the previous cuvée. This bluish-colored wine is a perfect match for Italian cheeses, lamb or spicy dishes. Its blackcurrant and licorice notes will enhance your dishes.

In white, there’s Clémestel. White fruit aromas are enhanced by a full-bodied palate with a citrus finish. This blend of 4 varietals will enhance your aperitifs, grilled fish and charcuterie. Clémestel is also available in rosé. It has a raspberry-scented nose and a rose-petal color. With its tangy mouthfeel and citrus notes, you can enjoy it with barbecues, aperitifs or pizza and summer vegetables.
