You’re making a mushroom recipe and don’t know what wine to pair it with? Discover our selection according to your wine preferences (white or red) and the type of mushrooms used!

Mushrooms are a staple of French cuisine, but not so easy to pair with wine. It’s how you prepare it that will help you choose the right wine. Here are our recommendations for the perfect dishes to enjoy.

Mushroom and white wine pairings

Dry white :

Button mushrooms, chanterelles and porcini go well with dry white wines such as Chardonnay. You might consider Pouilly-fuissé “la dynastie des ferraud”, a wine that is supple on the palate and fruity on the nose. Similarly, Château Rochefort’s Muscadet Sèvre et Maine Aop is a sure bet. It’s generous yet fresh, and boasts two stars in the Guide Hachette!

Sweet white :

If you’re serving mushrooms with garlic and parsley, you can opt for a mellow white wine like a Chenin Blanc: Domaine Mosny’s moelleux vielles vignes is a wine for laying down and gastronomy that will delight your taste buds alongside the herbed mushrooms.

Sparkling wine :

Time for an aperitif! Cream of mushroom toast can be accompanied by a Brut sparkling wine. You can, for example, choose champagne duntze with 2 stars in the hachette guide. This cuvée is delicious! This is a wine with a nervous nose and a lively mouthfeel. A delicious way to start an evening with friends.

Mushroom and red wine pairings

Light red :

Fancy a pizza? Opt for a
red wine
light, like a Burgundy Pinot Noir: Louis Max’s Savigny-Lès-Beaune is spicy on the nose and aromatic on the palate. What’s more, it received a 91/100 rating from Figaro Vin in the Foire aux Vins 2023 selection.

Woody red :

If you’re serving grilled mushrooms with meats, a woody red wine like a Merlot from Château grand renouil by Vignobles Ponty will do just fine. When young, it reveals aromas of blueberries and bitter chocolate. Simple but effective!

Full-bodied red:

If your mushroom dish is prepared with a tomato-based sauce, opt for a red wine like Mas du Chêne Sangiovese. It’s a wine that’s greedy on the nose and long on the palate. The acidity of the tomato will be more than offset by the robust structure of this Italian wine. To the delight of your guests, and especially your palate!

Mushrooms go equally well with red and white wines. And for all occasions.

So all we have to do is wish you bon appétit! 🍄
