cheval des andes

Cheval des Andes was born from the meeting of two cultures: this “Grand Cru d’Argentine ” combines the vision and know-how of Château Cheval Blanc with the high-altitude viticulture of the Mendoza region. In this unique terroir, located at the foot of the Andes mountain range, Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon vines are grown under natural, environmentally-friendly conditions.

History and identity

Founded in 1999 in one of the most renowned regions of Luján de Cuyo, north of Mendoza, Cheval des Andes extends over an exceptional vineyard where two grape varieties are planted: Malbec from vines that are sometimes octogenarian, and Cabernet Sauvignon. This rich terroir, cultivated at the foot of the Andes mountain range, produces a Grand Cru des Andes that combines freshness, elegance and the promise of excellent ageing potential.

The “vintage effect” reveals the remarkable character of this wine every year.

Twenty years of daily care and meticulous attention to detail in these unique vineyards, in collaboration with the Château Cheval Blanc teams, have resulted in the production of a true “grand cru” from the Andes.

The Andes horse estate

50 hectares of vineyards are dedicated to the production of this prestigious wine. Vineyards here differ in altitude, topography and soil composition.

In 2000, Cheval des Andes launched a biodiversity project on the estate, planting flowers and other plants that attract birds and bees, the natural predators of vineyard pests.

The team has two organic vegetable gardens and a livestock farm with sheep, horses, cows, llamas and alpacas. They grow fruit, herbs and olives, which are processed into oil. Sheep are shorn to make warm clothing for the vineyard workers. All animals provide natural fertilizer for the garden.

Today, Cheval des Andes lives not only from viticulture and winemaking, but also from the desire to share its love and appreciation of the land with visitors.

Grands Crus

Vintage 2014 : whispered and poetic, Malbec reveals itself with autumnal aromas of resin and pine that slowly mingle with fresh berries and floral notes of violet and rose. Round and voluptuous in character, the palate is creamy on entry, with a vibrant, balanced and fresh evolution. This wine reveals a structured, precise finish with tannins that leave a velvety, persistent sensation. Parker gives it a score of 97/100.

Vintage 2019 : all the critics love him. In fact, the scores awarded are all above 96/100. Complex, the nose blends fruity (red fruits, cherries, redcurrants, plums) and floral (violet, lavender) fragrances with savory notes of vanilla, cedar and licorice from barrel ageing. Fresh on the palate, with elegant tannins, precision and balance.

These are legendary wines, as much for their quality as for their prestige acquired over the years! 👑
