AOC presentation

Lalande-de-pomerol is a French appellation d’origine contrôlée red wine. It is produced in the communes of Lalande-de-pomerol and Néac. As its name suggests, this AOC is similar to AOC Pomerol, from the Libournais vineyards (a sub-region of the Bordeaux vineyards).

Covering 1,230 hectares, this appellation is larger than AOC Pomerol, but has remained in the latter’s shadow due to the lower quality of the wines it produces.

The soils of this terroir are predominantly a mixture of clay and gravel. To the west, near the river, we also find sandy soils. These soils are particularly well-suited to growing Merlot, the main grape variety of the AOC. The grape varieties also include Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Côt (Malbec).

Lalande-de-pomerol’s main wines

The wines produced by this appellation have the dark ruby-garnet color typical of Bordeaux wines. On the nose, the intensity is very expressive, with red fruits and spices, cocoa and game. On the palate, the wines are well-balanced, with a clean, velvety, full attack. Melted tannins.
