Method and Madness micro-distillery
The story
Method and Madness is not just a range of Irish whiskeys launched by Irish Distillers. It is first and foremost a micro-distillery founded within Midleton itself: a veritable laboratory of experimentation orchestrated by Brian Nation, master distiller, Kevin O’Gorman, master of maturation, and Billy Leighton, chief blender. These three great professionals work hand in hand with Midleton’s young apprentices. While the latter are destined to take over from the former, their role is also toimagine the future of spirits, blending tradition andheritage withinnovation and the need to push back the boundaries.
At the heart of this modern, unconventional distillery, transmission rhymes with innovation .
Method and Madness was created to explore new styles of Irish whiskey, not only in terms of distillation techniques, but also in terms of ageing techniques in original casks.
In 3 sentences, Method and Madness is :
– a brand that’s not afraid to try new things, but always builds on the solid foundation of tradition and knowledge.
– a brand that will surprise you, but will always remain true to its philosophy of tradition and audacity.
– a brand created by people who have a lot of knowledge and love for what they do.
Method and Madness whiskeys shake things up by offering a singular range comprising a single malt, a single pot still and a single grain. A gin has also been added to the range. While most distilleries switch from gin to whisky, Method and Madness have done things a little differently, thanks to the result of an experiment. It contains 16 eclectic botanicals, including black lemon and Irish gorse flower, which give it citrus and spicy notes.
A unique design
The design of the Method and Madness bottles was entrusted to
two designers
Matthew Bolger and Emelie Lidström of the M&E studio. A Swedish-Irish alliance that dresses the bottles in unique, colorful patterns.
Their inspiration?
Create a bottle that celebrates the liquid and the manufacturing process behind it. In particular, they drew inspiration from the barrels to reflect the craftsmanship that goes into them in the bottle design. The aim was to create a minimalist bottle, slightly reminiscent of a laboratory.
A balance between method and madness that can also encompass the entire range and stand the test of time.
The Method & Madness must-have
Irish Whiskey Method and Madness Single Grain : :
In the words of Master Distiller Kevin O’Gorman, this whiskey could be summed up as follows: “How about we move away from the familiar with a Single Grain whiskey aged in Spanish oak casks. Without giving too much away, the two go very well together, with soft woody spice notes that harmonize with the natural sweetness of the grain.”
Tasting notes :
Nose: Fine and airy. Rose petals, pine and grain notes.
Palate: Warm. Toasted oak, grapefruit and spices.
Finish: Long and fresh. Cloves, mint and cereals.
Whether for yourself or as a Christmas gift, don’t hesitate! This whisky is a sure bet!
