Côte-de-beaune-villages

Côte-de-beaune-villages is a Burgundy appellation d’origine contrôlée recognized since 1937. This appellation covers sixteen communes in Côte-d’Or and Saône-et-Loire, within the Côte de Beaune vineyards. Within the classification of Burgundy appellations, côte-de-beaune-villages is a communal appellation (or village appellation), between the premier cru and the regional appellation. The côte-de-beaune-villages production area benefits from a terroir composed of clay-limestone soils and a temperate oceanic climate with continental trends.

Tasting and ageing

The wines of côte-de-beaune-villages, exclusively red and made from 100% Pinot noir, are generally supple and light in the north, thicker and more colorful in the south. To the eye, wines range in hue from light ruby in the north to ruby with purplish hues in the south. On the nose, there are scents of black and red fruits, floral notes and aromas of undergrowth. On the palate, the tannins are more or less supple, depending on whether you’re in the north or south of the appellation.

We recommend waiting at least two years before tasting a wine from this appellation. Young wines require a good aeration or a little ageing to be fully appreciated. A côte-de-beaune-villages can be kept for up to 10 years.

Food and wine pairing

Côte-de-beaune-villages wines go very well with local gastronomy: boeuf bourguignon, boeuf carottes, lapin à la bière… They can also be enjoyed with stuffed turkey, roast meat or herbed beef kebabs. Some also enjoy it with certain cheeses, such as Maroilles, Epoisses or Saint-Marcellin.
