It is produced in the Burgundy vineyards of eastern France, in the C\u00f4te de Beaune wine region. It is produced in Month\u00e9lie. It has the appellations d&#8217;origine contr\u00f4l\u00e9e and d&#8217;origine prot\u00e9g\u00e9e.<\/span><span class=\"s6\">  since 1937<\/span><span class=\"s6\">. Its terroir enjoys a semi-arid oceanic climate.<\/span><span class=\"s6\">&#8211;<\/span><span class=\"s6\">continental. The vineyard faces south and southeast on the Volnay hillsides.<\/span> <span class=\"s6\"> and <\/span><span class=\"s6\">vines have developed on <\/span> <span class=\"s7\">Bathonian gravelly limestone composed of red clay and marl. It also extends into the Auxey-Duresses valley on argovian limestone with east and west exposure depending on the side of the slope, at altitudes of between 230 and 370 meters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Month\u00e9lie white or red, the appellation includes many 1er cru wines.<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"s4\"><span class=\"s7\">This appellation comprises a total of 15 climats classified as <\/span><span class=\"s7\">&#8221; <\/span><span class=\"s7\">premier cru<\/span><span class=\"s7\"> &#8220;<\/span><span class=\"s7\">the most famous of which are <\/span><span class=\"s7\">Duresses<\/span><span class=\"s7\">the <\/span><span class=\"s7\">Riottes<\/span><span class=\"s7\"> and the clos <\/span><span class=\"s7\">Gauthey<\/span><span class=\"s7\">. This denomination is mainly  <\/span><span class=\"s7\">d<\/span><span class=\"s7\">red wines with more than 24 h<\/span><span class=\"s7\">ectares<\/span> <span class=\"s7\">but<\/span><span class=\"s7\"> also <\/span><span class=\"s7\">of<\/span><span class=\"s7\">s white wines with around 2 h<\/span><span class=\"s7\">ectares<\/span><span class=\"s7\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Producers use grape varieties characteristic of the region<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"s4\"><span class=\"s6\">The main grape varieties used <\/span><span class=\"s6\">used to<\/span><span class=\"s6\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.twil.fr\/france\/bourgogne\/monthelie.html\">Month\u00e9lie white<\/a> wine are<\/span><span class=\"s6\"> the <\/span><span class=\"s6\">Chardonnay<\/span><span class=\"s6\"> or<\/span> <span class=\"s6\">Pinot Blanc.<\/span> <span class=\"s6\">Its characteristics <\/span><span class=\"s6\">are often compared<\/span><span class=\"s6\"> and associated<\/span><span class=\"s6\"> to that of<\/span><span class=\"s6\">of its cousin Meursault. To the eye, it has an elegant yellow colour.  <\/span><span class=\"s6\">pale <\/span><span class=\"s6\">with golden<\/span><span class=\"s6\"> golden highlights. <\/span><span class=\"s7\">It emanates <\/span><span class=\"s7\">floral<\/span><span class=\"s7\"> and <\/span><span class=\"s7\">vanilla<\/span><span class=\"s7\">sometimes<\/span><span class=\"s7\">e <\/span><span class=\"s7\">notes of dried fruit, such as roasted hazelnut or almond<\/span><span class=\"s7\"> are revealed<\/span><span class=\"s7\">. The Burgundian practices of b\u00e2tonnage and oak barrel ageing give Chardonnay the mellow, slightly brioche-like texture on the palate so typical of the C\u00f4te d&#8217;Or.  <\/span><a name=\"_GoBack\"><\/a><span class=\"s7\">In the end, this white is often characterized as generous and lively.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s4\"><span class=\"s7\">The<\/span><span class=\"s7\"> best vintages <\/span><span class=\"s7\">and <\/span><span class=\"s7\">and most recent <\/span><span class=\"s7\">for Month\u00e9lie white include the years<\/span><span class=\"s7\"> 1995, 1996, 1999, 2002 and 2005.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Fish or shellfish for a perfect match<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"s4\"><span class=\"s7\">It&#8217;s important to know that Month\u00e9lie blanc<\/span><span class=\"s7\"> can be enjoyed as an aperitif or with dinner. <\/span><span class=\"s7\">When it comes to pairing <\/span><span class=\"s7\">this wine,<\/span> <span class=\"s7\">its <\/span><span class=\"s7\">its mellow, full-bodied character goes perfectly with just-seared shrimp linguine<\/span><span class=\"s7\">, <\/span> <span class=\"s7\">or a fish tagine, for example.
