First clue: we’re in France. And yes, France, a country so deeply rooted in the history of wine. While Spain and China may appear to be bigger producers than us in terms of quantity, it has to be said that when it comes to quality, it’s almost exclusively French wines that come out on top.<\/span><\/p>\n

When we think of fine wines in France, we instinctively think of the Bordeaux region and its 1855 First Growths: Haut Brion, Mouton, Ch\u00e2teau Lafite, Ch\u00e2teau Margaux and Ch\u00e2teau Latour. Think of P\u00e9trus or Angelus, or even the only white premier cru sup\u00e9rieur in the 1855 classification, Ch\u00e2teau d’Yquem…<\/span><\/p>\n

And yet, of the top 10 most expensive wines in the world in 2021, eight come from the Burgundy region and two from Germany. At the top of the ranking, we find the Roman\u00e9e Conti Grand Cru, from the Domaine de la Roman\u00e9e-Conti, vintage 1945, which trades at an average price of \u20ac14,000, and can be found at a maximum of \u20ac482,000 <\/strong>. <\/span><\/p>\n

You won’t be surprised to find the Domaine de la Roman\u00e9e Conti, located just outside the village of Vosne-Roman\u00e9e, now considered one of the world’s most prestigious vineyards. Spread between the C\u00f4te de Nuits and C\u00f4te de Beaune appellations, Domaine de la Roman\u00e9e Conti produces eight crus: Roman\u00e9e Conti, La t\u00e2che, Richebourg, Roman\u00e9e Saint-Vivant, Grand Echezeaux, Echezeaux, Montrachet and Corton rouge. Renowned for its exceptional vintages and low yields, Domaine de la Roman\u00e9e Conti is one of those vineyards that are so legendary in France and around the world.<\/span><\/p>\n
