Bordered by the Mediterranean coastline, vine-growing is firmly rooted here, dating back to ancient Greece. However, it should be noted that the reputation of these wines is still relatively recent.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In recent years, Languedoc winegrowers have freed themselves from the influence of the traditional major winegrowing regions, and forged a unique identity for their wines. Convinced of the potential of their terroirs, some winegrowers, tired of producing wines known only for their high alcohol content and lack of taste appeal, have shown that they can produce wines worthy of the greatest.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Established on the region&#8217;s many hillsides, they now produce wines with a generous, rounded character and a wide range of aromas, benefiting from a wide variety of terroirs and an ideal Mediterranean climate.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unlike other major wine-growing regions, there is as yet no official classification of <a href=\"https:\/\/vin-champagne.ouest-france.fr\/languedoc-roussillon\/\">Languedoc crus<\/a> &#8211; but the nuggets are no less numerous.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Major Languedoc appellations<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Among the Languedoc&#8217;s unmissable appellations <\/span>, the<strong>AOC Pic Saint-Loup<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">stands out <\/span>.<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Officially registered since 2017 and increasingly sought-after, this is the Languedoc&#8217;s rising appellation par excellence. Its terroir is particularly attractive: the limestone slopes are known to be particularly well-suited to vine-growing. Some of the best vineyards are <strong>Domaine de l&#8217;Hortus<\/strong>, <strong>Clos Marie<\/strong>, <strong>Ch\u00e2teau de Lancyre<\/strong> and <strong>Mas Brugui\u00e8re<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><strong><br \/>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/vin-champagne.ouest-france.fr\/terrasses-du-larzac\/\">Terrasses du Larzac<\/a><br \/>\n<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">  are also particularly coveted for their garrigue aromas. Wines from this appellation have gained considerable recognition in recent years. Their  <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The wine&#8217;s great freshness is matched by structured tannins that balance the flavors.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Domaine de Brunet<\/strong>, <strong>Mas Jullien<\/strong> and <strong>Mas de l&#8217;Ecriture<\/strong>, among others, produce excellent vintages of this AOC.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Les <\/span><strong>Faug\u00e8res <\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">enjoy both a Mediterranean and mountain climate. <\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The schist and clay soils give them a particularly distinctive and prized mineral note. The reds have spicy, roasted aromas. The ros\u00e9s are fruity and the whites fresh, with notes of citrus and exotic fruit. The <strong>Ch\u00e2teau des Estanilles<\/strong> and <strong>Domaine L\u00e9on Barral<\/strong> stand out.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.twil.fr\/france\/languedoc-roussillon.html\">Languedoc&#8217;s most famous appellations<\/a> also include the AOCs <\/span><b>Corbi\u00e8res-Boutenac, Saint-Chinian Roquebrun, Saint-Chinian Berlou, La Clape, Minervois La Livini\u00e8re, Limoux blanc, Gr\u00e8s de Montpellier<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or even <\/span><b>P\u00e9zenas<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Languedoc appellations to remember<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Smaller AOCs also produce excellent vintages. For example  <\/span><b>Corbi\u00e8res, <\/b><b>Fitou, <\/b><b>Cabard\u00e8s, Malep\u00e8re, Minervois, <\/b><b>Picpoul de Pinet,<\/b> <b>Clairette du Languedoc<\/b><b> and <\/b><b>Saint-Chinian<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span> <\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are many PGIs in the Languedoc region. The specifications, which are less strict than those of AOCs, leave room for greater freedom, enabling winemakers to exploit the full potential of their terroir and create original cuv\u00e9es.
