Extensive work and a selection of grape varieties were introduced. This quality meant that they could be transported by boat without the wine turning. Over the years, the expertise of Saint-Emilion&#8217;s winegrowers has grown from strength to strength.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Pauillac<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/vin-champagne.ouest-france.fr\/pauillac\/\">Pauillac<\/a> <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is known as the wine capital of the M\u00e9doc. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As with Saint Emilion, it was the 1855 classification that forged the reputation of Pauillac wines, classifying Ch\u00e2teaux Lafite Rothschild, Latour and Mouton Rothschild as Premiers Crus.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In all, AOC Pauillac boasts 18 crus class\u00e9s, representing 85% of its wine production. Its poor soils, unsuitable for any crop other than vines, give rise to racy, powerful wines of exceptional quality.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Pessac L\u00e9ognan<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/vin-champagne.ouest-france.fr\/pessac-leognan\/\">Pessac-L\u00e9ognan<\/a> appellation is the historic heartland of the great terroirs of Graves and Bordeaux.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Pessac-L\u00e9ognan AOC was created in 1987, but the terroir is very old, and was already sought-after in the Middle Ages, with gravel, pebbles, sand and clay. The appellation groups together all the Graves Grand Cru Class\u00e9s, including Ch\u00e2teau Haut Brion, a Grand Cru Class\u00e9 from 1855.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pessac-L\u00e9ognan reds are highly sought-after: elegant, full-bodied and robust, they finish with notes of ripe red fruit and licorice.  <\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Margaux<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Margaux appellation also enjoys international renown.  <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is one of the M\u00e9doc&#8217;s most extensive appellations. It boasts 21 crus class\u00e9s, including the famous Ch\u00e2teau Margaux classified as a Premier Cru, as well as Ch\u00e2teaux Palmer and Rauzan-Segla,  <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Durfort-Vivens, Lascombes, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Giscours, Dauzac&#8230; and remarkable Crus Bourgeois. <\/span> <\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is often said that Margaux wines are the most &#8220;feminine&#8221; of the M\u00e9doc, with their delicacy and elegance.  <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Margaux produces exceptional ageing wines, both light and powerful, coveted by the finest palates.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Pomerol<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Located in the Libourne region, AOC Pomerol is one of the rarest and most prestigious appellations in the world. Small in size but big in reputation, the Pomerol appellation benefits greatly from the international renown of Ch\u00e2teau P\u00e9trus, one of the most expensive wines in the world.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Sauternes<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sauternes is often considered the world&#8217;s finest sweet wine. Not to mention the fame of the legendary Ch\u00e2teau d&#8217;Yquem, Sauternes&#8217; only Premier Cru Sup\u00e9rieur, and the many legends surrounding the vineyard.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What&#8217;s more, Sauternes wines require gargantuan production costs and care, as well as unparalleled expertise.  <\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Saint-Est\u00e8phe<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Saint-Est\u00e8phe AOC boasts 5 crus classified in 1855, including Ch\u00e2teau Cos d&#8217;Estournel, Montrose and Calon-S\u00e9gur, as well as over 50 Crus Bourgeois and Crus Artisans.
