You’ve come to the right place! Let’s have a look!

What is Monbazillac?

Monbazillac is a sweet white wine, recognized since the 14th century as one of the best sweet wines in France and certainly in the world. The appellation is located near Bergerac, north of the Dordogne river. These wines are made from the three grape varieties also used in Sauternes: Semillion, Sauvignon and Muscadelle.

To obtain this sweet taste and syrupy consistency, the grapes are hand-selected to preserve only those affected by noble rot, also known as “botrytized” grapes. Autumn mists, a local climatic feature, and the coolness of north-facing slopes contribute to the development of this fungus, allowing the grapes to gorge themselves with sugar.

In its prime, it has nothing to envy Sauternes, and is often far less expensive! With its aromas of honey and acacia, its mellowness and softness, and its immense ageing potential, Monbazillac is a wine to have in your cellar and to serve with foie gras or any dish incorporating Roquefort![/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

Which Monbazillac to buy?

Domaine de Moulin-Pouzy, Cuvée Optimum 2011 – Vignobles Fabien Castaing

A superb Monbazillac with notes of candied fruit, honey and vanilla, enhanced by a few smoky notes from 12 months’ barrel ageing.
