Over the years, the Domaine has invested heavily in writing the history of Burgundy’s great wines <\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n

A look back at the history of a legendary estate that celebrated its 150th anniversary. <\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”2\/3″][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

In the 20th century<\/h4>\n

William Ponsot bought the estate in 1872. His nephews took over in 1920 and extended the plots even further.<\/span><\/p>\n

Just before the Second World War, the estate began to bottle their harvest early. A large proportion of the wines were then exported to the United States, a rare occurrence at the time.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 1936, the family fought to have Burgundy classified as an AOC (Appellation d’Origine Contr\u00f4l\u00e9e). It’s not an easy fight! <\/span><\/p>\n

From the 1960s to the 2000s, many changes were needed. First, the estate was grouped into a soci\u00e9t\u00e9 fonci\u00e8re, with Jean-Marie Ponsot, Jacqueline Ponsot Livera, Abb\u00e9 Denis Ponsot and Marie-Antoinette Ponsot as members. Then a new sales system was put in place. In this way, he diversifies the sale of his entire bottled production to 44 countries.<\/span><\/p>\n

Today, the estate remains exclusively family-owned, with Laurent, Rose-Marie, Catherine and St\u00e9phanie Ponsot managing the various entities.<\/span><\/p>\n

Respect for nature and traditions<\/h4>\n

Domaine Ponsot uses natural growing methods to bring out the richness of the Burgundy terroir. Without claiming any organic or biodynamic label, they listen to and respect their terroir and preserve as much of their heritage as possible. Human intervention is limited and only the most natural products possible are used in the vineyard.<\/span><\/p>\n

Today, more than ever, the Ponsot family’s fight is to respect the soil, proud to protect their mosaic of prestigious crus. <\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

A revered prestige<\/h4>\n

The estate produces 83% reds and 17% whites, the vast majority of which are Grands Crus or Premiers Crus.<\/span><\/p>\n

Today, the estate boasts 10 Grands Crus, including Clos de la Roche, the estate’s legendary cuv\u00e9e. The cuv\u00e9e reveals great scope, a fine tannic structure and magnificent ageing potential. <\/span><\/p>\n

The astonishing 1er Cru blanc de Morey Les Monts-Luisants is a spicy, fresh Aligot\u00e9 with magnificent licorice accents. <\/span><\/p>\n

Curiosity in the range: old Aligot\u00e9 vines (Clos des Monts Luisants). The result is a crystalline wine with a saline finish. This wine can defy the decades, undeniable proof that well-worked, century-old vines are immortal. <\/span><\/p>\n

Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru is a cathedral, the telluric power of the beverage coming solely from the grapes and in no way from its time in barrel.<\/span><\/p>\n

After 150 years, Domaine Ponsot is still at the top of its game. There’s no doubting the quality of these vintages, which are still exported on a massive scale and sought-after by the greatest connoisseurs of fine Burgundy wines. <\/span><\/p>\n
