So it&#8217;s no surprise that when you open the door to Couvent, you&#8217;re entering the corridors of time.  <\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;2\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h4>The history of the Jacobins Convent<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Jacobins Convent was built on one of Saint-\u00c9milion&#8217;s highest points. In 1389, it was donated to the Dominican friars preachers, also known as the Jacobins, and took on its definitive name.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Jacobins Convent was a place of prayer, but also a stopover for pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela. The brothers worked the vineyards surrounding their convent for almost four centuries, exporting it throughout France and to the English court.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Around 1780, the Dominican order was dissolved and the Couvent des Jacobins abandoned, before being sold as national property during the French Revolution. It subsequently had several owners, including the Guadet and Vauthier families.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Couvent des Jacobins was bought by a Saint-\u00c9milion winemaker, Jean Jean, known as Gentil Jean. The winery then passed to his daughter Berthe, who married No\u00ebl Joinaud. Between 1957 and 1965, the estate was extensively restructured and renovated, and the winery was enlarged to improve production.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 1969, the Couvent des Jacobins achieved its first classification as a Saint-\u00c9milion Grand Cru Class\u00e9. The business passed to Rose-No\u00eblle Borde, No\u00ebl Joinaud&#8217;s daughter, and her husband Alain Borde. Since 2010, Xavier Jean, Jean Jean&#8217;s great-great-grandson, has been at the helm of the Couvent des Jacobins.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A great story passed down from generation to generation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.twil.fr\/france\/bordeaux\/saint-emilion.html\">for the appellation<\/a>!  <\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h4>The Couvent des Jacobins vineyard<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Couvent des Jacobins vineyard covers 10.7 hectares. The vines are between 10 and 55 years old. The grape varieties are Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The grapes are harvested by hand. They begin with the harvesting of  <\/span><b>Merlot<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">followed by <\/span><b>Cabernet Franc<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and finally <\/span><b>Petit Verdot<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The estate is certified <\/span><b>Organic Agriculture ECOCERT<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> since September 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><img class=\"aligncenter wp-image-15963 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/vin-champagne.ouest-france.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/couvent-des-jacobins-.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.vinispi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/couvent-des-jacobins-.png 375w, https:\/\/www.vinispi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/couvent-des-jacobins--225x300.png 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 375px) 100vw, 375px\" \/><\/h4>\n<h4>The wines of the Couvent des Jacobins<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Le Couvent des Jacobins produces <a href=\"https:\/\/vin-champagne.ouest-france.fr\/saint-emilion-grand-cru\/\">Grand Cru Class\u00e9 Saint-\u00c9milion<\/a> wines. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The blend is made up of 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.couvent-jacobins-saint-emilion.com\/fr\/notre-vin\/2020\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jacobins Convent 2020<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">  The nose is elegant and delicate, with a fine grain, depth, finesse and well-defined fruit. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of juicy strawberries, fresh blackcurrants and, more lightly, blackberries. VertdeVin gives it a score of 94\/100.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.couvent-jacobins-saint-emilion.com\/fr\/notre-vin\/2018\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jacobins Convent 2018<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">  Rated 94\/100 by James Suckling, this wine has good length. The tannins are well-crafted, racy and precise.
