It&#8217;s one of the most important feasts in Christianity, and is celebrated all over the world. Easter celebrations can include masses, processions, family meals, egg hunts and chocolate and candy giveaways, depending on local and family traditions.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At Twil, we like to<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/vin-champagne.ouest-france.fr\/5-accords-mets-vins-pour-paques\/\"><br \/>\n  <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> pairing our dishes with our wines<\/span><br \/>\n<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. All the more so at Easter, when our wines are made by monks and nuns! In fact, the monks were pioneers in viticulture and wine production in many of the world&#8217;s wine-growing regions.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;2\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 24px; letter-spacing: 0.05em;\">Champagne<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> <\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Benedictine monks of Hautvillers Abbey in France are often credited with inventing the method for producing Champagne wine, which involves a second fermentation in the bottle. In fact, it was in the 17th century that  <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.twil.fr\/france\/champagne\/dom-perignon.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dom P\u00e9rignon<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a cellarer at the abbey, developed a winemaking method that involved adding a small amount of sugar and yeast to a still wine to provoke a second fermentation in the bottle. This method produced an effervescent, sparkling wine that quickly became very popular in aristocratic and bourgeois circles.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, it is important to note that the invention of Champagne is not due to a single individual or a single place. The Champagne winemaking method has been perfected over the centuries by numerous winegrowers and craftsmen in the Champagne region.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<h4>Burgundy<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many vineyards in Burgundy, France, were founded or developed by monks, notably those of the C\u00eeteaux and Cluny abbeys. Founded in 910, the Benedictine abbey of Cluny also played an important role in the development of viticulture in Burgundy. The monks introduced new grape varieties to the region and developed winemaking techniques that improved the quality of the wines. The Burgundy wines produced by the monks of Cluny include white wines such as  <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.twil.fr\/france\/bourgogne\/pouilly-fuisse.html\"><br \/>\n  <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pouilly-Fuiss\u00e9<\/span><br \/>\n<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.twil.fr\/france\/bourgogne\/saint-veran.html\"><br \/>\n  <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Saint-V\u00e9ran<\/span><br \/>\n<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">as well as red wines such as <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.twil.fr\/france\/bourgogne\/mercurey.html\"><br \/>\n  <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mercurey<\/span><br \/>\n<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.twil.fr\/france\/bourgogne\/givry.html\"><br \/>\n  <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Givry.<\/span><br \/>\n<\/a>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h4>Bordeaux<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Abbey of La Sauve Majeure, located in the Bordeaux region of France, has been producing wine since the Middle Ages. In particular, they were famous for their quality and longevity. Then there&#8217;s the abbey of  <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.twil.fr\/france\/bordeaux\/saint-emilion.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Saint-\u00c9milion<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">  founded in the 8th century. The latter are still renowned for their finesse and elegance. Finally, Vertheuil Abbey, founded in the 12th century and located in the  <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.twil.fr\/france\/bordeaux\/medoc.html\"><br \/>\n  <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">M\u00e9doc<\/span><br \/>\n<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was renowned for its richness and complexity. <\/span> <\/p>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<h4>Rh\u00f4ne<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Abbey of Sainte-Croix in Beaumont-Monteux, founded in 1137, played an important role in Rh\u00f4ne Valley viticulture. Their vineyards included several grape varieties, including Syrah, Viognier and Marsanne. Today, the domaine de l&#8217;abbaye de Sainte-Croix produces wines under the appellation &#8220;<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.twil.fr\/france\/vallee-du-rhone\/grignan-les-adhemar.html\"><br \/>\n  <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Grignan-les-Adh\u00e9mar<\/span><br \/>\n<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.twil.fr\/france\/vallee-du-rhone\/grignan-les-adhemar\/payenne-wine-70881.html#131722\"><br \/>\n  <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Payenne, Domaine Saint Gu\u00e9ry<\/span><br \/>\n<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a rich, greedy wine, very harmonious on the palate and finely fruity with an excellent balance of flavors. <\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h4><img class=\"aligncenter wp-image-16074 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/vin-champagne.ouest-france.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/AdobeStock_251984306-1024x683.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.vinispi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/AdobeStock_251984306-1024x683.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/www.vinispi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/AdobeStock_251984306-300x200.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.vinispi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/AdobeStock_251984306-768x513.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/www.vinispi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/AdobeStock_251984306-1536x1025.jpeg 1536w, https:\/\/www.vinispi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/AdobeStock_251984306-2048x1367.jpeg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/h4>\n<h4>Rioja, Spain<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rioja wine is rich in history. The monks of the Carthusian Order have been cultivating vineyards in this region of Spain since the 12th century.
